The British porcelain maker Spode traces its origins back to 1770, when potter Josiah Spode opened a factory, followed by a shop in London. His beautiful blue porcelain successfully competed with imported Chinese porcelain in the same style. But it was under the leadership of his son, Josiah Spode II, in the early 1800s that the company truly flourished, and British ceramics gained global acclaim. Today, Spode’s Blue Italian is considered one of the most iconic porcelain collections in the world.
